How it works

From sign-up to the podium

Four steps. You bring the testing brain; we take care of everything else.

01 📝
Sign up with a team

Register for an event with your name, your email and a team name. Competing alone is fine — you're simply a team of one.

02 🔑
Get your login

We build every account and every team ourselves, so all teams start equal. Your credentials arrive by email before the day.

03 🐛
Test the surprise app

The clock starts, the application appears, and it's on. Plan, hunt, and file reports a developer could actually act on.

04 🏆
Get judged & ranked

Judges read every submission against the same criteria, then the top three teams are announced — usually the same day.

The competition day

What actually happens

Every organizer builds their own day, so the clock changes from event to event. The shape of it does not.

Before the start
Warm-up

Everyone connects, checks their setup, and hears the briefing. Questions get answered while they're still cheap.

Usually 2–4 hours
The competition

The application is revealed and the window opens. Reports only count while the clock is running — when it stops, it stops.

A few hours after
Judging

Judges work through every team's submissions. Nothing is scored automatically — a human being reads what you wrote.

End of the day
The results

Top three teams revealed, prizes handed over — on stage at an in-person event, or live on camera online.

Times are set per event and always published in advance. See a full example day →

Two ways to compete

Online or in person

Same platform, same kind of application, same judging. What changes is where you sit — and how loud the room gets when the winners are announced.

🏟️

In person

A venue arranged by the organizer — often inside a conference, a university, or a company office.

  • Tables, power and internet are provided; you bring your laptop
  • Every team in one room, working against the same clock
  • An awards moment on stage that people remember
📹

Online

Compete from wherever you are. The organizer opens a meeting space — Discord, Teams, Zoom — and everyone joins it.

  • No travel, and a whole country can take part at once
  • Announcements and questions run through the meeting space
  • Results announced live on camera at the end of the day

Why compete

What you take home

Win or not, a few hours of competitive testing teaches more than a month of comfortable testing.

Testing under real pressure

Unknown software, a hard deadline, and no requirements document. Exactly the situation nobody prepares you for.

Recognition that travels

Certificates, prizes chosen by your organizer, and a result worth putting on your professional profile.

A global community

You compete alongside testers from communities on six continents — and meet the ones in your own city.

AI, out in the open

AI tools are allowed and encouraged. Using them with judgement is part of what gets rewarded, not something to hide.

Bring it to your community

Conferences, user groups, universities and companies host World Best Tester events around the world. We bring the platform, the application, the judges and the scoring — you bring the people and the occasion.
